Rebar BIM model from 2D drawings

The government's BIM mandate requires all government funded projects to have a level 2 BIM model for all elements of the project including the reinforcement bars, but while most projects employ some form of 3D modelling for the main architectural, structural and M&E elements, reinforcement detailing has been slow to catch up a is still predominantly being completed in 2D in the industry.

We can take 2D reinforcement drawings and bending schedules already completed and, using our advanced 3D reinforcement modelling software, can convert them into a level 2 BIM model including all required attribute data for inclusion into the client's federated BIM model.

The production of a 3D rebar model has also proven to quickly identify potential clashes or problems on site that would otherwise not become apparent until rebar is on site and being installed, saving time and money.

3D reinforcement detailing/BIM model

All of our projects since 2009 have been detailed completely in 3D regardless of a requirement for a BIM model by the client.
Outputs are still issued in the traditional manner as 2D drawings and bending schedules but with the many advantages that a full 3D model adds.

We find that detailing in this way and building a full solid model of every rebar not only provides many benefits to us but can also highlight issues such as reinforcing bars clashing with other bars, services or obstructions that may easily be missed with traditional 2D detailing. Finding such issues during the detailing process, way before any reinforcement gets to site, can help avoid costly site delays if bars have to be modified or reordered during fixing.
